Supervisors Help Avert Marion County Financial Crisis
Marion County faced a cash crunch but board actions and transfers quieted the relief in late June. Transfers of 25 000 from the emergency fund and 31 000 plus 27 000 from construction funds to the maintenance fund cleared deficits and allowed fall tax collection to cover remaining shortfalls. Treasurer Metcalf claimed the county was in the best shape in twenty years, noting 78 000 of bonded indebtedness paid since January 1 and substantial road work despite earlier funding strains. Rumors of state examiners circulated, but officials denied any immediate need.
