Bromegrass Harvesting and Curing Instructions
Farmers should harvest seed and cut hay simultaneously. Refer to the combine service manual for proper settings. Monitor chrome grass seed to prevent heating and spread on a floor no more than two feet deep, turning until completely cured. Copies of Bromegrass in Town are available at the County Extension Office for more information.
Forecast for Fruit Supply in 1945 Season
The forecast projects total fruit production matching last year despite shortages in sour red cherries and apples and lighter supplies of other fruits. Western areas expect plentiful peaches and sweet cherries with good pear plans and apricots. Thrifty homemakers will can what they can. use smooth topped bottles and heat wash before canning juice.

Bear Encounters Farmer While Missing Calves Near Waukon
Nels Johnson of Allamakee County north of Waukon searched for two missing calves along timbered land when he met a large brown bear. Neither party was armed and both studied each other before retreating quietly, avoiding conflict.
