City Council has Monthly Tussle
The city council met in regular session last Tuesday with many problems discussed. A petition from First Christian Reformed church for hitch racks was referred to the street and alley committee. The public buildings and grounds committee reported selling grass at market squares for $6. The Main street curbing contract was let for 20 cents per linear foot to Den Adel and Vander Heiden. Plans for a crossing at the east alley beside Stubenrauch’s drug store were ordered. Proposals on grading and drainage dominated debate, including H Rhynsburger's request to alter a grade and allow drainage through his property, which was referred to the mayor for legal advice. The treasurer and city clerk reports were approved, and $137.55 in bills were paid. An adjourned meeting is planned for next Tuesday evening.

Summer School Notes Brighten Teachers Week at Chautauqua
Summer School proceeds with busy days and strong enthusiasm under Miss Kempkes and other teachers. The model school features true to life work in reading, numbers, nature study, and primary teaching. Miss Rose Wilson leads exercises in physical culture as May Pole drill approaches. After Chautauqua the term continues two weeks for review and ends with July 29 county exams by Supt. Josephine Smith open to all teachers. Some plan state primary certificates and praise a week at Summer School for learning more than a term at a large state school.
