On Thursday June 80th at the Van Manen farm near Lynnville, Mr. and Mrs. Van Manen and son Norman showcased a 12 by 8 foot cattle guard built over a pit with cement supports and timbers. The family runs Hereford cattle and mixed hogs, and 4 H members Joan and Norman participate in local clubs. Possible Control Methods for Swine Rhinitis at ISU Institute
Research at the Veterinary Medical Research Institute Iowa State College under Dr. W. P. Switzer shows encouraging results in infectious rhinitis in swine. Three control measures are under evaluation, with uncertain effectiveness. Isolation of sows and litters may reduce severity but will not purge infection. A 30 foot lane separation between infected pigs and non infected sows and litters is another finding under study.
