Soils District marks progress with 1945 gains in Marion County
In 1945 the Marion County Soils District added 71 farms and 12 181 acres under control, bringing totals to 477 enrolled farms and 86 214 acres. Sixty five woodland acres were planted, 11 ponds built pushing total ponds to 80, and 30 ponds stocked with fish as contour pasture furrows were established. The district began in 1941 and peaked in 1944 with 19 000 acres and high cooperative enrollment.

At a Marion county AAA meeting in Memorial hall the township committeemen chose about ten soil conservation and soil building practices for 1946. Farmers may sign up for any number of practices and receive benefits based on their selections. Marion county led Iowa in 1945 participation.
