School Bill Aims to Ease Local Tax Burden and Fund Aid
Bandstra notes the Fourth District would receive about 18 percent of proposed federal school funds though it holds 13 percent of the state population. He says about 89 percent of town costs come from property taxes and the measure would help hold budgets and millage steady. If passed, funding for local special education would be administered by Iowa’s Department of Public Instruction with no federal control over curricula or personnel.
