Goldwater joins UN critics in a changing stance
The growing tide shows Senator Barry Goldwater moving toward criticizing United Nations membership. He previously opposed withdrawal, but now cites Communist members, cost to taxpayers, and UN General Assembly decisions as reasons. His current position contrasts with earlier views where UN withdrawal would have harmed his political standing.

Engineers Favor Des Moines River Power Site at Oskaloosa
Reports from city engineers to Oskaloosa favor immediate development of a Des Moines river power project at the site. Initial 2400 horsepower capacity with a 1044 foot head would cost about 300000 dollars including transmission to the city. Later additions could raise capacity to 8250 HP, with potential to reach 8000 HP for around one million dollars, and claims the river can be dammed without flooding bottom lands. Mayor Vanden Berg named J M Veenstra night marshal, replacing Al Breuklander. H H Sadler, publisher, and Miss Leona Hunt wed at Baptist parsonage January 25 with Rev A C Droz officiating.
