Iowa State College agronomist Joe L. Robinson says high quality seed boosts yields by about 15 percent. Using oats as an example, 50 bushels per acre could rise to 57.5, lifting income from 44.00 to 50.50 per acre, enough to cover seed cost and leave higher net profit. He urges buying certified seed checked for purity germination and adaptation to Iowa.
