Danger of creosote from burning green wood
A Iowa State College extension engineer warns that burning wood with high moisture leaves creosote in chimneys. Green firewood can be 40 percent moisture, dry wood 15 to 20 percent. Creosote forms easier in tall outside flues and when draft is strong, and cleanup is hazardous. Use dry firewood and remove creosote carefully.
