Narrow vs Wide Row Corn Planting Panel Debated
Adults at Newton High School heard a panel with two machinery reps and three farmers Clarence Carlson David Boot and Gordon Wassenaars discussed narrow row yields. Most favor moving from 40 to 30 inch rows citing efficiency, water concerns and possible corn varieties for grain harvesting while some urge improved management to keep 40 inch rows. Weather was variable, irrigation unlikely, and contouring practices were urged. A digression noted Tunis De Ruiter’s fox hunting habits and a humorous aside about his dog Ranger.
