Deficit Seen in Iowa State Funds by 1970

Revenue could reach about $1.3 billion while expenditures may total $1.38 billion, driven by population and income changes and taxes. The Cooperative Extension Service offers a public discussion program “Financing Our Public Services” starting Feb 8 to inform citizens and solicit group discussions nationwide and in Marion County.

Lawmaker seeks ban on relatives in federal hiring
Washington D C Congressman Bert Bandstra announced a bill to bar federal officials from hiring or promoting relatives and to deny pay from the U S Treasury for those employed under such terms. The measure defines relatives broadly and aims to curb nepotism for morale and integrity. Meanwhile northwest Liberty township gains 590 acres from Wilkinson Coal Co for a planned 860 acre wildlife and park area, including land donated by Cecil and Eva Wilkinson and several Wilcox families. The county plans to incorporate it into a scenic highway system and wildlife preserve, with additional parcels donated and oil and gas rights reserved on some tracts.
