Poor Lighting From Shading Obstructs Sunlight In Homes
Mrs. Louise J. Peet of Tew State College explains that half down shades block about 60 percent of daylight, while upper one fifth openings lose only about one seventh. She notes upper window light comes from the sky and lower from ground reflections, with ground features absorbing much light. Eye strain accounts for sixty percent of vision defects in the U.S. and good lighting plus daylight use helps. Dirty panes can absorb up to a quarter of sunlight, more in smoky cities.
