Drainage district plans move forward in Fayette county
The first drainage district in Fayette county is filed with the supervisors. Centered in Smithfield township it will cover about 2600 acres with preliminary costs over 600. Farmers aided by the farm bureau and the extension department at Ames launched the project and other communities in the county are ready to follow. The article also notes a high value increase expected for nearby Fort Madison once fields are cleared and soil quality improves. Early Iowa agriculture coverage includes hog health, road fund status, and poultry promotion plans in Benton county.
