The Sharon Star reports Private Bruce Longstreet of New Sharon listed missing in action in Germany since January 2. A Central College student before enlistment, he was well known to many Pella residents, especially athletics enthusiasts. his letter to his parents dated January 11 is cited.
Private William Gosselink graduated from a special school at Fort Riley. Enlisted in August 1944, he completed training under Major General William M. Grimes. He previously trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Wilhelmina Van Dyke Hols born in Holland on March 28 1878 died January 1943 at her Oskaloosa home after years in the area. She was daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Van Dyke and wife of Hols, mother of four, with three children surviving. Her funeral in the Christian Reform Church was led by Rev D Pikaart and burial took place at Forest Cemetery with local pallbearers mentioned.
Henry Elscott son of John and Catherine Elscott was born near Pella Iowa February 23 1867 and died January 21 1955 at Mahaska Hospital Oskaloosa aged 78 years 10 months 28 days He married Jennie Van Workum in 1802 and survived by his widow nine children four sons and five daughters two brothers and four sisters Also preceded in death by a daughter Funeral services were held at the Friends Church Lynnville on Tuesday January 23 with Clifford Brown Des Moines in charge A quartet sang Now I Am Resting and Going Down the Valley Flowers were arranged by Tempa Taylor and Sparks Pallbearers were grandsons Delmar Jansen Carroll Elscott Donald Woogie Warren Stanley Wayne Jansen and Glen Elscott Burial was in Sully cemetery
Franklin Pierce McAdoo son of Samuel Cope and Isabel Sipma McAdoo was born near Pella Iowa October 27 1866 and died January 12 1945 aged 78 years 2 months and 16 days He grew up near Pella and studied in Marion County He joined the Baptist church at Pella later transferring to Indianola and remained a member except for years with Center Chapel Methodist He farmed in Marion County before moving to Warren County in spring 1890 the same spring he married Cora Tice of Pella They had one son S C McAdoo killed by lightning at 13 and four daughters Irene Richards Northboro Avis Brown Indianola Francis Fairly Indianola Beulah Sherman Des Moines Also surviving are 17 grandchildren including Morris and Clarence Richards in the Navy Warren Richards in the General Hospital and Sgt Warren Richards in service with other siblings and relatives mentioned within the obituary

Des Moines guests including Mrs. Gertie Beyer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ryken, Milo J. Renaud, and Beverly attended a dinner at Mrs. C. TL. Renaud’s home with Luella Van Dusseldorp visiting from Polia. The Diek Ver Bloes group enjoyed games, a shower honor, and social time. Several relatives joined later for visits and a farewell feathering at Ludlow school for moving families.
