Wandering family cons as traveling beggars in Iowa towns
A Chronicle summary recalls a family of a man, a woman, and several children who traveled through southern Iowa last October, begging and telling varied stories to gain meals and lodging. They moved from St Joe to St Louis and Wyoming then to Des Moines and Omaha, receiving some cash from the Ku Klux Klan at Prairie City and prompting local suspicions. A similar group appeared in Lovilia, mirroring the same pattern of deception and reliance on sympathetic towns.
