Rifle accident ends Des Moines man's life near Fairmount
Leonard Hancock of Des Moines was killed instantly when a gun handed to him by Rex Honnold discharged at the Grant Jennings farm near Fairmount after they returned from rabbit hunting. The 80 year old victim died at the scene as medical aid arrived from Prairie City. Honnold and Hancock worked at Woody Tire shop in Des Moines and Jennings is Honnold’s father in law.

Peculiar Farm Accident Costs Five Cattle at Faulkner Farm
Floyd Faulkner of four miles southeast of town found his straw stack tipped over on Tuesday night. Ten feeders were buried beneath straw. five cattle were rescued alive with neighbor Murray Leanhart aiding. Five cattle died of suffocation.

Man Dies in Colfax Mine Accident
Tom Wiley of Colfax was killed Monday at noon in No 2 mine of Colfax Consolidated Coal Co two miles east of Prairie City. Coal cars piled up crushing him against the wall. An inquest was planned. Wiley was 34, leaving a wife a four year old son and two sisters.

Bloomfield Girls Return Home After Attempt to Travel
Two Bloomfield girls with dreams of travel were stopped by Sheriff Robert Gregson on Tuesday. Bloomfield authorities alerted their parents, who retrieved the youths at once. The girls had been seen around town Monday night and headed north on Route 59 Tuesday morning.

White Crow Captured in Dickinson County

Charles Switzer of Eddyville lost his home east of town to a blaze discovered by his wife about 6 30 p m. Fire spread quickly as Switzer was away on business in Des Moines and his wife and daughter-in-law saved some belongings. Insurance partially covers the loss.

New Sharon Teacher Severely Injured in Fall
Miss Frances Safeley the New Sharon high school principal suffered a knee injury at the schoolhouse and again at the depot in New Sharon while en route to Oskaloosa. An X-ray showed the kneecap broken in two places. She will stay in hospital until a cast is applied and hopes to return to work. Miss Irma Quaintance covers in the interim.

Fatally Injured in Coasting Accident
Standley Sloan thirteen year old son of Mr and Mrs W E Sloan was fatally injured in a coasting accident on the Searcy hill on Primary road No 59 north of the city at 2 30 pm Saturday when his sled collided with an automobile driven by George Moore. He died at 4 00 pm Sunday after being taken to Miners hospital. Moore made every effort to avoid the accident but could not avert the collision. The car was stopped immediately and the lad was brought to the hospital.
