Negro Transient Pleads Not Guilty To Assault Charge
Frank Mentor a 23 year old Oklahoma Negro faced arraignment on an assault with intent to do great bodily injury charge in Oskaloosa. A near riot followed after he allegedly bit Mrs Sabie Lakka of Colonial flats and was beaten by her relatives and bystanders. Three other Negro men were detained as investigators seek the attacker named Jack. The grand jury will review the case with a Feb 10 date set for further hearing.

Foxes Shot Near Milton After Chickens Lost
Last Sunday on the hills north of town the foxes were tracked from Scheyli farm buildings. Dogs chased them to Harry Atkins property where Brown shot and killed both. Milton Monday notes 21 chickens devoured around the den. Brown found a buyer for the pelts, John Gibson. Foxes, once scarce, have been seen more often in the Milton area this winter.
