Interstate Highway Plan for Iowa Five Year Buildout
Iowa proposes a five year, 190 mile interstate and 508 mile primary highway program with costs totaling hundreds of millions. It includes 252 miles four lane grading and bridges, 291 miles right of way, 239 miles erosion work and 508 miles paving plus 212 bridges and new maintenance facilities. The plan stresses federal aid, state match, and rising maintenance costs as interstate openings, bridges over the Mississippi and Missouri, and a Des Moines to Chicago route expand.

Safer Highways Through Expanded Nighttime Upgrades
Chronicle notes funded plan for safer highways includes better night lighting automatic traffic controls and extensive snow removal and ice control measures. Increased traffic from more cars and trucks raises maintenance costs until reconstruction funds are allotted.
Outlook Cattle Market Peak Likely Passed
Farm economist Francis Kutish of Iowa State University says the fall fed cattle market’s peak is past and the next month will be erratic due to tax postponements and unsold cattle from the year’s operations. As winter arrives, new crop cattle will hit the market, increasing supply and likely lifting February or March fed cattle sales above last year, with prices remaining gradual in decline and the spread between Good and Choice cattle widening.

March of Dimes helps Kathy Anderson with life saving care
Kathy Anderson, born with spina bifida in Grundy Virginia in December 1960, underwent a Columbus Ohio surgery funded by the March of Dimes. Neighbors, a Moose member, connected her family to doctors at the Clinical Study Center led by Dr. Robertson and Dr. Sayers. Kathy's condition improved but requires ongoing care and regular visits from Grundy to Columbus every few months as teams pursue better treatments for crippling birth defects.
