In Pella, Shut-ins Charles Van Tuyl and Mrs James V Lankelma were admitted on December 10 and 12 respectively, with Charles Van Tuyl. Mrs Roy Vande Kraats and Mrs John P De Jong admitted on December 13. Charles Van Tuyl and Mrs Roy Vande Kraats dismissed on December 12. Warren Schreiner admitted to Mercy Hospital Des Moines on Thursday for treatment of a blood clot in the lung.

Christmas calendar marks start of German season
For German children the Christmas season begins with the hanging of a calendar showing a painted house on December 1. Doors and windows of the house often hide pieces of candy. Potato R A De Jong of Pella dug up a giant potato from his garden. The sweet potato weighed 5 pounds, was ten inches long and 17 inches in circumference. De Jong said the entire crop was excellent in both.
