Iowa highway program targets 665 miles by 1970
The Iowa Highway Commission outlined a five year plan with a total program of 767.5 million dollars for 1965 to 1969, including 515.8 million for highway construction and 231 million for four lane Interstates. Interstates open to traffic would reach 665 miles by fall 1970, leaving 45 miles to complete a 710 mile network by 1972, with bridges at Le Claire on the Mississippi and Council Bluffs on the Missouri slated. The plan also mentions state scholarships, state fair profits, health insurance certification, and other state updates.
