Fire destroyed the three story Krizer seed house on the Newt Krizer farm near Newt IL, consuming 18 000 bushels of hybrid seed corn. The blaze started Thursday evening around 7 80 and spread despite help from Krizer workers and Oskaloosa firefighters. All other farm buildings were saved, and elements like a truck and tractors were spared. Insurance totaled 850 000. Krizer plans to rebuild next spring as 450 seed corn sellers across five states continue business.
