Bean Harvest Spreads Across Local Farms In Pleasant December
Readers report a sunny December afternoon near Pella as Prersant Grove students enjoyed outdoor play. Farmers across the area harvested dent beans, with yields around 22 to 30 bushels per acre on dry ground. Albert Wanders Sr and Elmer Dykstra operated a seven acre field, noting beans stayed firm and mold free despite wet weather, while plans for next year include Mukden beans to improve soil structure and erosion resistance.
