St Nicholas to Be in Pella Monday Event
St Nicholas or Sin terklaas of Holland was substituted for the usual Santa in Pella with an announcement of his December 6 coming and his helper Zwarte Piet. Hundreds of cookies and hot chocolate were to be shared at the Wooden Shoe. The Fowler Telephone Company won a 75 year franchise 398 to 100. Dutchmen lost to Hope College 65 56. Pella Christian girls 47 Pleasantville 39. boys 49 39. State Music Festival chorus included four Pella students.

Fire damages second floor of Tice home in 1924
In 1924 the Tice residence on East First Street lost its entire second floor in a Sunday blaze. Occupants were Mr. and Mrs. F A Gilbert. Pella Approves Bond Issue for New High School
Fifty years ago Pella residents backed a $48,000 bond proposal to build a new high school. Of 931 voters, 750 supported and 181 opposed. Men voted 3 to 1 for the project and women 9 to 1. Students organized a celebration with a band parade and bonfire. About $5,289 was raised for Belgian aid. P. G. Gaass and Henry F. John were noted in the report.

Smoke damages clothes of Otley girl at Graceland
At Graceland College in Lamont a dormitory fire caused substantial smoke damage in the wing housing Judy Mohler of Otley. Her room and clothes were affected, she and fellow students returned to their rooms Thursday after emergency crowded lounges and halls. Judy phoned her parents Friday morning and had spent the prior weekend with them.

Mary Goulooze 87 of 161 East 14th Street Holland Michigan died early Saturday December 5 at a nursing home she had been in six months. She and her husband Lane lived in Pella for many years where he worked as a janitor at Central College for 20 years. Services were held December 7 at Dykstra Funeral Chapel with Rev Bernard Brunsting officiating and burial at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland.
