A Poweshiek County meeting in Montezuma drew wide township representation on a plan to surface all primary and county roads. The bond issue expected to fund part of the $3.91 million project totals $1.14 million, with total cost split among federal aid taxes and assessments, and a 3 mill levy increase. Completion aimed within six years.
E D Rayburn receiver of the closed First National Bank promises a twenty five percent dividend to Brooklyn residents. About 150000 dollars in cash will be distributed in the near future with hopes that dividend checks reach people by Christmas time. The September 30 statement shows there was over 0.
The bank reports $140,000 in cash on hand and that all borrowed money has been paid. A 20 percent dividend was planned but increases in collections have raised the dividend by 5 percent, adding about $29,000 to the distribution. Mr. Rayburn says this is the first in a series of dividends.
