Neighbors Help Van Maanen Farm Corn Bee

On a Friday afternoon, 28 neighbors gathered near Leighton to harvest corn at Fred Van Maanen’s southwest farm. Local Dutch and Yankee workers assisted, with a large kitchen feed provided afterward. Fred recovers from a hospital visit in Oskaloosa as business friends from Leighton and nearby towns help load corn into wagons and cribs.

On Tuesday November 13 relatives gathered at the John O De Cook farm five miles southeast of Pella to harvest the remaining 600 bushels of corn from ten acres. Mr De Cook, long ill and hospitalized, could not assist. two men had been hired, and the relatives worked all day under six terms. Mrs L. unique was noted in the event.

Harold Ver Meer steer places third at international show

At the Aberdeen event Harold Ver Meer's steer finished third while Howard Bradley's animal took second. About 72,000 cattle were exhibited with stock valued around 5 million dollars. Angus stock is noted among entries.
