On a Friday afternoon, 28 neighbors gathered near Leighton to harvest corn at Fred Van Maanen’s southwest farm. Local Dutch and Yankee workers assisted, with a large kitchen feed provided afterward. Mr De Cook, long ill and hospitalized, could not assist. two men had been hired, and the relatives worked all day under six terms. Mrs L. unique was noted in the event.
