Farmers Tour Reveals Dutch Heritage And Rural Life
A weekly Chronicle visit profiles Gradus Van Zante on a 280 acre Holland‑rooted farm, his Dutch wife from Colorado, and a dozen local households. The piece recalls ancestral farms, renovations since early 1900s, school days at Liberty Corner, and memories of Dennis farm life with water witches and aging fences. It also notes Van Arkel and Monsma families, the shift in politics with Roosevelt, and local reactions to new roads and tax pressures.
