Lamoni Landmark House Burns In Lamoni Iowa
A historic Lamoni residence on Tenth and Linden burned to the ground Wednesday night after being left a vacant tax sale property. Occupants escaped unharmed though furniture partly saved. Origin suspected from old papers on the south porch. Built 1887 by Oliver Hudson, the house stood amid early modern homes once far from the town center.

Des Moines Register reports 69 year old L A McCreery of Albia died after a fall from a house roof. His skull fractured upon striking stone steps. Once ran a livery stable and taxi stand. later worked with daughter Deah Taylor in McCreery and Taylor garage. Survived by wife and daughter.

New Sharon Man On Farm 68 Years
A New Sharon man, F. J. Osborne, born on a Richland Township farm ten miles west of New Sharon, has lived there continuously for 68 years. Four Year Old Killed on Harding Highway
Cleo Matix four, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Mattix, died instantly Friday afternoon after being struck by a Buick Sedan on the Harding highway about eight miles east of town. Driver C F Hertig Milwaukee salesman stopped and aided family. coroner’s jury ruled the accident unavoidable. Ruth Matix eight witnessed but did not warn. The community expresses heartfelt sympathy.

Newton Daily News reports Colfax Baptist church bought the former C W We house on South Oak Park Street from the state highway commission. The house will be moved beside the church for use as a parsonage after the commission acquired right of way concerning Route No. 82. Oskaloosa Herald reports a string of misfortunes for the Hollis Moore family at Rose Hill. A son is recovering from serious injuries in an auto wreck that nearly cost him his life. Their sheep were attacked by dogs, a bull gored three horses, and two-year-old Robert sustained a severe toe injury plus gashes from a sharp spade.

Fremont Man Dies by Own Action Near Fremont Farm
Ralph Helm of Fremont committed death by own action last Wednesday evening about 7 o'clock by taking poison. He was found near a shallow pool of water on his farm five miles northwest of Fremont. Survived by wife Ella and children Marie Roy Frances and Ronald Lee. Funeral held Friday at 2 PM from Competine Christian church. Interment in Competine cemetery.

Explosion at C B lunch room damages room little
Monroe County News reports that a gasoline urn exploded at the C B lunch room on North Clinton street Saturday morning. The burner overflowed and ignited the blaze beneath the urn, causing a severe blast. No injuries occurred as bystanders were out of reach. Firefighters contained the fire with an extinguisher and smoke drifted through the room.

Truth About Paving On Number 6 Lovilia
Lovilia residents were misinformed by last week’s reports claiming paving on primary road No 6 south of Lovilia would end two miles south of town. Actual work started one and one fifth miles south of the Louilla corporation line, extending three miles to Sheehan, with delays at Clark's point. When finished to Sheehan from the south, paving will resume from there toward Lovilia, then north toward Lo dirt. Paving is within half a mile of town. The state highway signed a contract in April to pave Albia to Lovilia center during 1930.

Woman Kills Self by Hanging Near Drakesville
Mrs. Sherm Downing, of the Davis County area one mile west of Drakesville, ended her life by hanging at about two o clock Saturday afternoon. Despondency is believed to be the cause. A note left by Mrs. Downing directed funeral arrangements and cited enduring worry as the reason. Dr. Heady did not deem an inquest necessary and stated she had been dead only a few minutes when found.
