J C Penney reports first six months 1929 earnings rise
J C Penney Co reports record net earnings for the first half of 1929 amounting to 3,306,147.62 after taxes and before preferred dividends, plus 418,928.94 from discounts and miscellaneous income bringing total to 3,725,075.56. Compared with 1928 first half earnings of 3,182,824.66 after deductions, the year over year gain is 737,780.21. Cash balence stood at 12,329,968.17 as of June, with inventory at 47,447,725.89. July gross sales reached 14,553,664.66 versus 11,734,299.18 last year, and seven month cumulative gross sales totaled 97,639,898.38, up 16.95 percent from 83,488,166.83. President E C Sams praised overall volume gains and expressed optimism for the balance of the year.

Orpheum Des Moines Promotes State Fair Week Vaudeville
