Reasons for rail zoning in Marion County discussed
At a Marion County Farm Bureau public relations meeting on August 6 Burl Par extension landscape architect from Iowa State University Parks outlined key zoning aims. He said rural zoning regulates non farm land uses outside cities and towns and that farm regulations are prohibited by Iowa law. He noted urban land use spreading into rural areas intensifies zoning issues and that Red Rock Reservoir will heighten county zoning needs in Marion. Proximity to Des Moines drives residential demand outside towns, creating more zoning challenges. The group discussed distributing basic zoning information across the county.
