Western Canada braces for bumper wheat crop year
Special correspondence from Weyburn Assiniboia reports Canada’s western wheat fields near harvest. Acreage may reach 4,000,000 with 20 to 25 bushels per acre expected, potentially yielding 80 to 100 million bushels. Prosperity could flood the region with money, spurring expansion as settlers move in from the United States. Winter wheat in Alberta may total 40,000 acres with about 30 bushels per acre, signaling a shift toward winter varieties in the north western grain belt.
