Larry De Bruin and James Jackson tied for first in the 1965 Junior Cattle Feeders contest at the Southern Iowa Fair after weighing and appraising 16 entries from 4-H and Future Farmers of America. The judges credited rate of gain, appraisal value changes, and dressing estimates, with final scores adjusted to a tie. Appraisers Gene Harper Ray Tubaugh and Paul Lewis conducted the final inspection after A. R. McCurdy's death. McCurdy was buried as results were analyzed.

Price Prospects For Fed Cattle In Late Summer
Fed cattle prices are expected to hover near 1964 levels through late summer and fall. ISU economist Futrell projects 1965 cattle marketings to exceed 1964, with Oct-Dec slaughter 3 to 5 percent above last year. July 1 cattle on feed rose 9 percent to 7.5 million head, with gains driven by lighter weights.

Tracy Smith of Pleasantville led at Marion County Fair with a 201 pound pig, earning top carcass honors and a 5.5 square inch loin eye while live judging the hog placed fifth. Lynnville Iowa Aug 4 Neil Patrick Farm Operation Curriculum advisor from Iowa State University will visit Lynnville-Sully Community high school August 12 at 1 00 p m. He will meet new Farm Operation freshmen and discuss the Winter Quarter Program in Farm Operation for teens planning to farm. The program runs November 30 to February 26 with instruction in farm management livestock production field crops soils and machinery maintenance.
