Reinertson Assigned to Newly Formed Air Force Reserve Squadron
Ottumwa Iowa hosts the organization of the 9688th Air Force Reserve Recovery Squadron under Lieut. Col. Harlan B. White with Capt. Donald J. Reinertson among the first from the area. The unit plans 22 officer positions and 156 enlisted billets, drawing from roughly a 60 mile radius. In national emergencies the squadron would activate at Ottumwa Airport and provide landing sites, maintenance, refueling, communications, and medical support.
