Plow 170 Acres in Two Hours Portrait of a Iowa Farm
A Chronicle News photo shows Jim farming 470 acres north of Sully in Jasper County. He raises 400-500 hogs annually and about 100 ewes, with a 20 head stock cow herd plus 25 dairy cows. He broke his leg when a tractor upset three weeks ago. Neighbors previously contributed 40-50 acres of oats and disced 40-50 acres of stalk fields. An estimated $150,000 worth of equipment was at work in his fields as 130 bottoms pulled, needing a 150 foot swath if all in one field.
