Mrs Reuben Leydens visited three weeks with her daughter in Jenison Michigan. Numerous families from Des Moines to Detroit and Oskaloosa gathered for Easter weekend. Residents hosted visitors from Denver Chicago and Ames with church and funeral attendances noted.

Miss Jacelyn Cox daughter of Mr and Mrs Francis Cox of Grinnell wed Gary Blom son of Mr and Mrs Guy Blom of Lynnville in a 730 pm April 6 double ring ceremony at the Grinnell Methodist chapel. A reception for 60 followed at Sally Christian school with local relatives helping and Mrs Leonard Pearce providing organ music. The couple will reside in Grinnell where Blom works as a painter.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Van Wyk of Lynnville announce the birth of their daughter Carlyn Lorraine weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces born Sunday April 22 at Mahaska Hospital in Oskeloosa. Grandparents are A E Van Zee of Pella and J W Van Wyk of Sully.
The afternoon was spent in visiting and a delicious lunch was served at the close of the afternoon.
Lynnville Friends Church will host a Kansas concert choir from Friends Bible College Haviland, Kansas on Sunday April 29 at 10 30 a m The 45 member group directed by Roy Clark will perform a diverse program from classic to spirituals and gospel songs Rev Clark a graduate pianist organist minister and educator brings relaxed informality to the choral performance
Mrs. Ten Hagen led a cake decoration demonstration at Central's home economics club in Upper Jordan Hall. Members practiced basic decorating techniques and, after the program, planned for the Home Ec Convention in Ames with eight majors and several attendees listed, Corinne Bush set to represent Central College as state THEA vice president next year.
In the Amsterdam school district on April 13 residents enjoyed a community program featuring a vocal duet by two young girls and a travelogue about eastern Canada detailing Ontario Quebec New Brunswick Prince Edward Island and nearby regions.
Pella Community high school musicians under Rotarian Dean Van Haaften performed for the Rotary club. Eleven students prepared six instrumental numbers for the Osceola State Music Contest with five soloists named, supported by four accompanists. District Governor Harold O. Hegland dropped in, and former speaker Andy Klyn led next week’s agenda.
Central College athletes compete across track golf and tennis this week with Drake and Parsons on local courts. The track team joins the Penn Invitational in Oskaloosa Thursday, baseball hosts Simpson Saturday, and a Grinnell triangular left Clads tied for first in one event as Larry Furda and Dave Patterson matched 6 foot high jump efforts.
Miss Cornelia Hospers presented the Nova Scotia program. Following the event, attendees enjoyed a social hour with hot chocolate and cookies.
Dave Wingh clocked a second in the 440 and Walt Anthony took second in the 100 while Bob Voss finished fourth in the same race. Voss and Anthony were third and fourth in the 220 respectively, Duyne Krueger was third in the javelin, Bruce Heerema fourth in the shot put, Anthony third and Fidahl fourth in the broad jump, and Central placed second in the mile relay. Central posted 24 points, Grinnell 68, and State College of Town 85, as coach Marvin Kregel took 12 men to the event and expressed disappointment in Central’s showing.
Logan Kuiper son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Kuiper Otley is among thirty eight new members named to the State University of Iowa chapter of Phi Beta Kappa national schol ar honorary society Initiation will be May 19 at 3 pm in the House and Senate Chambers of Old Capitol Eligibility requires either candidate or recipient status at SUI
Kuiper, a 1968 Pella Community High School graduate, ranked in the College of Liberal Arts upper 10 percent and received a fellowship grant of 3095 dollars for graduate study toward a master's degree in physics for the 1962 68 academic year at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena California.
Karen Knowles daughter of Mr and Mrs Arlen Knowles Pols ky Iowa State University Theatre will perform at 8 p m May 2 3 and 4 and at 2 p m May 4 and 5 in Curtiss Hall auditorium
Donald I E Van Vark of rural Pella along with Elmer M Greiner of Keota Ronald L Gee of Knoxville and Richard M Cole of Lovilia were inducted into the Army at Des Moines last week and sent to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri for basic training.
