Iowa Fish Hatchery Beneficial for State Waters
Cedar Rapids state fish and game warden George A. Lincoln argues for a dedicated Iowa fish hatchery to propagate game fish for lakes and rivers. He notes recent high waters will wash fish downstream, leaving many stranded or killed. a hatchery would conserve, breed, and distribute eggs while reducing unlawful taking. He cites limited federal hatcheries near Manchester and Lake Contrary, Missouri, unable to meet Iowa demand. Lincoln favors Spirit Lake or Lake Okoboji as ideal hatchery sites for broad regional impact.
