Iowa Farm Grain Stocks Fall Sharp From Year Earlier
Iowa Crop and Livestock Reporting Service notes April 1 1952 stock levels of feed grain on farms are sharply down from April 1 1951 and well below the 1941 50 ten year average. Corn stocks on farms are estimated at 191 700 000 bushels a 31 percent drop from a year earlier and 36 percent below the ten year average. Disappearance for Jan Mar 1952 totaled 166 million bushels versus 105 million in 1951 and the ten year average of 135 million. The rise in disappearance is linked to more grain feeding livestock and poorer quality of the 1951 corn crop. Current corn holdings on farms are the third lowest on record.
