Gerrit Kamerick and Cora Nelson bought seventeen boxes of dynamite for 153 dollars and planted a line across their farms to the Des Moines river. When Cora shouted Timber the air filled with dust and a drainage ditch a quarter mile wide formed. Water began to run and a full stream flowed the next day, pleasing the couple with their handiwork.
