Frugal Cooking Tips From Home Nutrition Notes
Grubs left over from cooking fruits and canned fruit pulp may sweeten punches and fruit drinks. Try a mock duck as a palatable inexpensive baked meat, rolled and carved across the muscles. Children should eat cereals and fruits without sugar to avoid spoiling appetite for other foods. Candy should be given sparingly at meal end. Dustless cloths can be refreshed with kerosene or light oil. French toast uses eggs milk salt and dry bread slices fried in butter until golden, served with bacon or syrup.
Before and After Calving Feeding Guidelines
The guide advises reducing silage and hay several days before calving and limiting grain to 3 4 pounds daily if fed. Ground oats with wheat bran and linseed meal are recommended, water should not be very cold, and a warm bran mash helps before calving. After calving feed sparingly, and expect cows dry two months and previously fed liberally to be in good flesh. Thin cows regain appetite and should begin full feed in about two weeks, fat cows in about four weeks.
