Tulip Queen and court promote Tulip Time in Pella
On a Des Moines Saturday, Tulip Queen Mary with Pam Mulder and others handed out about 1000 brochures at Younkers and street corners. Observers noted varied reactions from indifference to eager interest as the Tulip Time image and Dutch costumes drew attention and curiosity about Pella’s festival. The piece also cites related local fundraising and agricultural payment details from 1965.

Wool incentive set at 31.6 percent
Shorn wool payments for 1965 will total 31.6 percent of the dollar returns growers received from wool sales in 1965. Russell E. Crozier, Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, announced the rate. The Department of Agriculture set the percentage to raise the national average wool price to 62 cents per pound, yielding a $31.60 incentive per $100 earned from wool sales in 1965, the eleventh year of the program.
