Andrew Kaul III announces Dr Lawrence M Liggett will become president of Airco Electronics a division of Air Reduction Co Inc effective Sept 1 1970. Liggett a 1938 Central College AB chemist 1943 Iowa State analytical chemist has led Speer Carbon Division since 1967 and held roles in plant management research supervision and VP technical director. He and Edith Harris have two daughters Pamela Jane and Betty Sue.
More than 1,600 Rolscreen Company employees and families attended the company picnic at Des Moines Riverview Park on Saturday August 29. The park was reserved for the Rolscreen Group with unlimited tickets for rides concessions and refreshments. Adults and children rode the Ferris wheel merry-go-round roller coaster and other rides enjoyed in warm weather judged a success by participants.
The September meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary at the Legion Hall featured Irene Zwank as president opening the forum. Tricia Steward, a senior at Pella Community High School, spoke on her Girls State experience in Cedar Falls Iowa and was elected to a State office, the first from Pella to hold such a post. The group approved the department vice president endorsement for 1972 and planned a Memorial for Mrs Margaret Van de Voort and a meal for veterans at Knoxville. Hostesses were Mrs Jacob Van Wyk Mrs Dwaine Meyer and Mrs Hattie Vos.
Frank Van Zante 83 lifelong Otley resident died Monday Aug 31 at Collins Memorial Hospital Knoxville. Services Thursday Sept 3 at Crumpacker Funeral Home Monroe with Rev Frank Snuttjer officiating. Burial at Silent City Cemetery Monroe. Survived by daughter Marion Van Wyk Otley six grandchildren two great grandchildren and sister Mrs Carl Crane Monroe.
