A study by two California University professors found current driver education in many high schools fails. The National Safety Council honored Dr. Frederick McGuire and RC. Kerch for identifying factors that reduce accidents, noting training itself was less influential.

IAC football ended Saturday November 8 with four losses in six games. ILAC finished 8-7 outside the league after a 63 point margin over non conference play. Westmar crushed Wartburg 93-14 and William Jewell beat Simpson 28-7 to spoil any potential unbeaten seasons. Other results include Tarkio defeating Buena Vista 52-18 and Concordia Minnesota edging Luther 42-38. William Penn and Central also won, while Culver-Stockton and Macalester each fell.
Dale Wellman of 303 W 4th St won the final football contest of the season after predicting 15 of 16 games and missing only the Los Angeles San Francisco bout which tied. Judges used the tie-breaker score as in prior years. 592 points were tallied across all contests and Bill Chambers scored 566.
National Farm-City Week will be observed starting Friday November 22 as announced by Marion County ASCS chairman Russell Crozier. He noted the ASCS family is glad to join in honoring the nation’s farmers and that co-sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs endorse this recognition.
Central college music major Mrs Vera Vander Hart gave a senior voice recital on Sunday November 17 with selections from Madame Butterfly Schubert and Schumann and Bernstein cycle. She was accompanied by faculty and students including Davis Folkerts Al Zwart and Jean Ellerson. The section also records the death of Mrs Luke L Schakel at 81 in Pella and family details including children Olive Joan Leonard plus many grandchildren and siblings.
Pella Christian High Eaglettes opened the 1968-69 season with a 64 to 19 victory over Blakesburg. Jansen scored 17, Dora van Vagaries had 26, and Judy Fopma added eight for the winners. Maria Monsma had nine interceptions and Bev Bruxvoort recorded five rebounds and seven steals. The Eagiettes travel to Deep River Millersburg on November 22 for their next game.
Central College will host a varsity and freshman basketball scrimmage on Saturday November 23 at 7 00 p m in the college gymnasium a small admission will be charged Coach Jack Walvoord outlined the tentative varsity lineup with Boeyink Witvoet and guards Crai Taylor or Herrema center Van Engen Van Engen and center positions for the freshmen include Brew er Belieu Ferguson with Lit tle at guard and George Robinson Tuba with Ferguson and Belieu among the forwards and Ferguson at center

Aviation Fire Control Technician Second Class Bart L. Clark of Otley serves aboard the USS Coral Sea off Vietnam. The carrier, first to launch air strikes in 1965, is on its fourth consecutive Seventh Fleet deployment on Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin with 4,200 crewmen. Coral Sea pilots have damaged enemy installations in daily air strikes and the ship has visited Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines.
