Dixon E. Southworth a 21 year old of Rensselaer New Jersey and Dannie R Lautenbach a 29 year old of Rt 1 Pella were in a two car collision at the corner of University and Main Streets about 9 am on November 11. Southworth drove a 1962 Plymouth traveling west about 25 mph. Lautenbach’s car moved east after turning south. The left front fender of Lautenbach's car was dented. Southworth reported no damage. No officer was at the scene and reports conflicted. Lautenbach said Southworth cut in and Southworth said Lautenbach ran a stop sign. Lautenbach said the corner was too short and he stayed in his lane.
LCDR Gene Klein USN receives the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V and fifth Air Medal for combat flights against North Vietnam while aboard USS Kitty Hawk during the Southeast Asia cruise ending June 1968. He is a Naval War College student in Newport and has multiple awards.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Blom age 84 are set for Friday November 18 at 1 30 p m from the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev Andrew Zybstra officiating Burial will follow at Peoria Cemetery under Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home direction Mrs Blom died Wednesday afternoon at the Rest Home
Central College seeks support to fund Brian O'Donnell's medical care and education after a football injury left him paralyzed from the chest down. A five dollar record of Dr. Pugh’s treatment is sold to raise funds, with profits supporting O'Donnell’s hospitalization and studies.

The Leighton Locker Plant, rebuilt after a January 1 1967 fire, will host an open house Saturday November 16 from 1 to 8 p.m. The 40 by 70 foot steel building on Main Street north of Leighton Bank holds 200 lockers and can hang 70 head of livestock. It will offer complete processing services including butchering packaging smoking curing and lard rendering. Bogaard says customers extend from Ottumwa to the east and Newton to the west. The plant reopened in October 1967 after the fire under a partnership that included the late John W Boozeboom.
