Ice Age project at Pella Creamery and a near tragic dig
In 1906 Pella Creamery folks attempted artificial ice making. John Hoksbergen dug a six by thirty foot well to supply cold water. While hoisting dirt a bucket struck him, he was knocked unconscious, a doctor was lowered into the shaft and then pulled up to treat him. He survived and continued a life of hazardous work. His daughter recollected his habit of taking chances.
