A long vacant lot across from the Post Office in Pella marks the former Bruinekool blacksmith shop era dating to 1890. The narrative recounts shop life, family helpers, rival tales with Betsy the rifle, gas engines before electricity, brick rebuilds around 1901, later uses, and final demolition for Pella National Bank construction.
Summer repairs were planned for the 230 ft smoke stack at Pella's Electric Light and Power Plant per the city electric committee. PAUL BOGAARD was named a Rolscreen Scholarship winner at Central College. A new Pella Belle dress shop opened downtown under Sherman Kamans. Vandals damaged Garden Square and West Market Park facilities, injuring several structures. Delmar Petersma, a four year Navy veteran, was discharged home this month. Scrap drives mobilized for war materials. Pella Manufacturing Co resumes work on denim jacket contracts for soldiers. Edward Wesselink became credit manager.
