Van Gilst of Mahaska County announces candidacy for State Senator in the new 46th district on the Democratic ticket. A lifelong farmer, he has 21 years in Marion County then moved to Mahaska County where he continues farming and has held multiple public service roles including Ways and Means, Transportation, Agriculture, and Appropriations committees. He chairs the personal property tax abolition subcommittee and has been appointed to the Commission on Aging, with intent to aid senior citizens on property taxes transportation housing meals and health care.
