Rimer Welsh El Elrod and others visited Salem and Pekin this week while local business, church events, and farm supply ads filled pages. Read of visits by Hiestand Elrod Nickolson and others, crop and hardware notices, sermons by Rev Zenor, and a steady stream of locals in town for sales, auctions, and social calls.
Patrons attended Friday’s closing exercises as children sang and spoke. Each grade finished its term work per the Course of Study. Fourth Year read most Howe Fourth Reader. third year completed Howe Third Reader and Ward materials. second year read Howe Second Reader and most Ward Second Reader. LA class covered Howe Primer and First Reader. Almost all pupils promoted. Elia Charghman and Archie Richards never tardy or absent. Noise reduction measures improved quiet in streets, rooms, and on streetcars.

Dr Lindley delivered the address near piano solos by Elda Grava and a valedictory by Fred Witepatrick on American Ideals. Principal Miss Nina K. Reid presented diplomas and gave a brief speech. Rev Jenner offered benediction as the evening concluded with favorable remarks about the graduates and hope for the youth.
Miss Bartlett opened with nervousness and received applause. Bernice Graves and Genevieve Gill played a piano duet. Dr B H Lindley of Indiana State University delivered the address Hidden Powers of Men on wealth’s relation to mind and development. He urged conservation of natural wealth and argued wealth grows from human effort and application, concluding with a call to action for investigation and opportunity.
