Half Foot Rain Causes Havoc Across South Texas
Prolonged rains spread from North to South Texas dumping over half a foot in some areas. San Antonio recorded a record 7.25 inches in 12 hours with 12.5 inches at a fire station gauge, flooding streets, forcing evacuations, and straining emergency services. Seguin and Dallas reported significant high water, with National Guard called up in Seguin. A broad flash flood watch covered much of South Central Texas as waters surged on the Guadalupe River and surrounding creeks.

Bed tax ordinance sparks Pecos council clash
A Pecos city council second reading of a proposed bed tax ordinance triggered vocal opposition from motel owners led by George Lambros and others. They argued the tax would unfairly burden commercial travelers and hurt local motels while chamber officials urged broader tourism advertising and city growth. The debate, with mayor E W Schmidt and councilman Garland Matthews guiding the session, extended to questions about housing and migrant workers as opponents pressed for alternative funding and methods.
