Bergland wary on farming year after record yields
Secretary Bergland said predicting a repeat of 1979’s all round record yields for 1980 is unlikely as the strong foreign and domestic demand supports markets. He urged maintaining federal programs and the farmer-owned grain reserve to stabilize prices and move grain efficiently, noting 7.44 billion bushels of corn projected for 1979 80 with a 7.27 billion bushel harvest just forecast.
