House panel scraps civilian policing jobs in Army reform
The House Appropriations Committee rejected plans to cut KP and cigarette butt policing as a cost-saving tactic to attract young men to the Army. It sliced 125 million from a 74.6 billion defense bill, ordering civilian kitchen police and cleaning detail programs ended by April 30 and plans to return duties to service members. Four Pecos residents escape serious injury after game crash
Four Pecos residents narrowly escaped serious injuries Friday night when their car overturned near Sierra Blanca on the return from the El Paso Irvin Pecos football game. Driver Roy Stokes dozed at the wheel, ran off the road, hit a guardrail, and overturned. his father Jack Stokes and two high school boys Nolan Bates and Wade McLain were passengers. They were treated and released at Van Horn hospital.

Scattered Showers Forecast Across Texas and West
The area is forecast for scattered showers with widely scattered nighttime thunderstorms west of the Pecos through Tuesday. Sunday highs reached 38 in Pecos with overnight 68. No weekend precipitation was recorded. Thunder showers dotted the western and coastal edges of Texas while inland activity extended to 125 miles.
