Westbrook Well in Winkler County pumps thirty barrels in the first fifteen hours using a pump. The result suggests a likely 30 barrel well. Oil men rate the area highly and expect more locations nearby.
Mrs. E. B. Yeanans of Salt Lake City died in the Denver Rio Grande wreck at Salida last Monday. She was sixty one, born March 15, 1865, long tied to Barstow then Salt Lake City. Survived by husband E. B. Yeanans, three daughters and a son, funeral to be held in Salt Lake City under Masonic auspices.
Miss Nora Hines Krauskopf departs Friday for El Paso to spend the winter attending El Paso Junior College. Sam Winkler's Dry Goods Store remained closed Thursday in observance of the Jewish holiday.
Ben Dunn son of Odessa residents was fatally shot in Midland near Elite Confectionery Monday morning. Suspect Bob White, a Midland rancher, is jailed on a $5,000 bond with hearing set for September 13.
New Mexico state engineer J A French announced a campaign to add the Roswell to Carlsbad and Carlsbad to Pecos segments to the U S Highway network. He plans to secure Texas cooperation for Pecos to the state line and notes the Carlsbad Cavern road is in federal park and state maintenance. The fifty five mile Pecos to state line stretch needs improvement to enable easier access to Carlsbad Cavern and eastern New Mexico traffic.
Balmorhea won 13 to 5 over Pecos in a sunlit one sided contest. Moore pitched well for Balmorhea while Bill at short provided easy outs. Pecos Hicks homered and tripled, but fielding miscues and a varied line up doomed the visitors to a landslide as Balmorhea avenged a prior meeting.
Golf enthusiasts can now enjoy Alamo Club course with extensive improvements by Jack Woods, including a longer number six, a stronger dog leg, and greens fixed with oil sand to aid play. The T E M and T H W will savor relaxed evenings and healthier recreation as backsliders return. Pecos Compress Co prepares to begin season work Monday after complete machinery overhaul. W. D. They will handle several thousand bales of cotton with a larger run expected due to ecropa and better weather. Last year shipments came from New Mexico and Texas with government estimates predicting 80,000 fewer bales nationally but the territory should show gains.
